Do you feel that the gray and cold winter months leave your skin itchy, red and irritated? With a few simple tips, you can update your skin care routine, get the glow back on your face and feel ready for the soon-to-be spring season.
Tip 1 – Identify your skin type
Knowing your skin type is the first and most important step in my opinion. In this way, you can adapt your skin care routine with products that suit your skin and at the same time avoid products that your skin does not like. There are different ways to do this. For example, you can book a skin care analysis with a skin care expert. While this is well worth the investment, you may not feel like it or have the budget right now. There are also a large number of free and quick skin tests online. These give you a good indication of where to start and can guide you in the right direction. So get to know your skin and find out your skin type - you won't regret it.
Tip 2 - Clean your hands before washing your face
It may sound obvious, but many people actually forget that the hands are the dirtiest part of the body as they constantly touch different surfaces and are exposed to bacteria. To avoid spreading the bacteria all over your face, which can trigger acne, wash them before touching your face. A quick, easy and free way to help your skin feel good. Feel free to use an organic soap and it will also be gentler on the hands.
Tip 3 – Wash your face with lukewarm water
Washing your face is of course the first step in a skin care routine. But many people use either too hot or too cold water. Using the wrong temperature can increase skin irritation. Also, hot water can dry out your skin. Warm water is the perfect compromise.
Tip 4 – Use SPF all year round
If you're interested in skin care, you probably already know that sunscreen is an incredibly important part of your skin care routine. In the summer, it is probably a matter of course for many. But harmful UVA rays, which the skin needs protection against, are much longer and can therefore penetrate the skin even in winter. Every skin care therapist I've talked to recommends sun protection year-round because it helps with premature aging, acne, hyperpigmentation, and acne scars. It is also an absolute must if you use retinol, vitamin C or AHA and BHA acids. Spring and sunny days are around the corner now, but don't wait, start using sun protection factor today.
Tip 5 - Continuity and patience
Skin doesn't change overnight. The products that give the best long-term results are also the ones that take the longest to get results from. It can take anywhere from four weeks to three months up to a year to see any difference. Patience is key and continuity is a must. Skipping the night won't ruin your skin, but if you want results, you have to work for it too.
Good luck!
